Stamps celebrate The Prince of Wales''s 70th Birthday

Guernsey Post announces that stamps depicting images of the life of The Prince of Wales will be released to celebrate His Royal Highness’ 70th birthday (stamp issue date: 8 November).

The eldest son of The Queen and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, His Royal Highness was born at Buckingham Palace on 14th November 1948. 

Following his education at Trinity College. University of Cambridge, in September 1971 after the passing out parade at Cranwell, The Prince embarked on a naval career, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and both his great-grandfathers.

The Prince qualified as a helicopter pilot in 1974 before joining 845 Naval Air Squadron, which operated from the Commando carrier HMS Hermes. 

His Royal Highness has for many years carried out overseas tours and engagements in the UK.  He also undertakes extensive work for charities and organisations worldwide and, with the support of his wife, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Prince works hard to make a positive difference in the UK and internationally.

46p – The Prince of Wales looking on during the presentation of the Diamond Jubilee Plate on Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington Racecourse in November 2012.

62p – The Prince of Wales attending the Sovereign’s Parade at The Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst on 11 December 1998. This was the first time His Royal Highness appeared as the rank of Major General of the Army, which he became on his 50th Birthday.

63p – His Royal Highness playing polo for the Maple Leaf team at Windsor, which has been a passion since childhood when he watched his father play at Windsor.

76p – The Prince of Wales watching an air force display of tornados near Munich, Germany, in November 1987. 

85p – The Prince of Wales attending the Badminton Horse Trials in 1980, the world’s leading three-day equestrian event.

94p – His Royal Highness mingling with guests from Australia and New Zealand at a reception held at Clarence House, which showcased the work of celebrated photographer, Anwar Hussein, in 2005.
